Common Questions

Do I need to prepare before coming in?

Preparation is simple.

We generally recommend arriving well hydrated and avoiding a heavy meal for a day or two before your appointment.

Is colonic hydrotherapy painful?

No.

Most people describe the sensation as gentle movement or mild pressure in the abdomen with occasional light cramping and a sensation similar to needing the toilet. These sensations usually pass quickly as the body releases. The treatment is performed slowly and gently, always guided by your comfort.

Many clients comment on how calm and relaxing the experience feels once they settle into it.

Flow Therapy uses a closed system, meaning everything released during the session moves directly through sealed tubing and into the drainage system.

There is no exposure to waste, smells or sounds, making the process very discreet.

How discreet is the process?

Yes.

At Flow Therapy we use single-use sterile speculums and tubing for every client, along with closed-system equipment designed to maintain the highest standards of hygiene and safety.

Is the equipment sterile?

How will I feel after the treatment?

Every body responds a little differently.

Many clients leave feeling lighter, less bloated, and more comfortable in their abdomen. Some people notice a lift in energy, while others feel more inclined to rest and allow their body to integrate the session.

Can I have a treatment if I’m on my bleed?

Yes, you absolutely can.

Many clients choose to receive colon hydrotherapy during their bleed and find it supportive, as the body is already in a natural phase of release. You may even find the treatment helps ease bloating or abdominal tension.

Are there any contraindications for colonic hydrotherapy?

Yes - there are times when it’s best to pause treatment. Colon hydrotherapy is not recommended during pregnancy, during an active flare of inflammatory bowel disease, or when painful or bleeding hemorrhoids are present. If you’re uncertain, we can gently guide you on whether it’s the right time for your body.

Does it flush out all the good bacteria?

Colonic hydrotherapy primarily helps release built-up waste, gas, and mucus within the colon. In doing so it creates a environment where the good bacteria thrive.

Your gut microbiome is resilient and naturally rebalances itself. Supporting digestion through diet and lifestyle can help beneficial bacteria continue to thrive.

Will colonics make my bowels dependent?

No.

Our intention is always to support your body’s natural rhythm, not replace it. Colonic hydrotherapy gently hydrates and stimulates the colon, helping encourage normal bowel movement patterns.

Many clients find their digestion becomes more regular over time.

Is colonic hydrotherapy safe?

Colonic hydrotherapy is a gentle and well-established therapy when performed by a trained and experienced practitioner. The equipment we use is specifically designed to regulate both pressure and temperature, ensuring the process remains safe and comfortable for the body.

Bowel perforation is an extremely rare complication and is typically associated with improper technique or pre-existing medical conditions that may weaken the integrity of the bowel wall. For this reason, we take your health history seriously and screen for any contraindications prior to treatment.
